Lipoma Removal

surgical removal of Lipomas at Persona Medical Aesthetics Bexleyheath Kent

A lipoma is a soft, fatty lump that forms just beneath the skin. It develops from an overgrowth of fat cells and usually feels doughy/rubbery to touch.

Lipomas grow slowly and are usually painless, although they can become uncomfortable if they press on any nearby joints or nerves.

These benigns growths commonly appear on the shoulders, back, arms or abodmen, but can also appear elsewhere on the body. While lipomas aren’t dangerous, people will often choose to remove them; particularly if they become m0re visible, continue to grow or if they cause discomfort.

How we remove Lipomas at Persona:

To remove your lipoma effectively, we perform minor surgical excision. This method removes the entire fatty mass, including its capsule. This significantly reduces the chance of recurrence.

How does the treatment work?

After cleansing and numbing your skin with local anesthetic, our medics make a small incision directly over the lipoma. They then carefully separate the lipoma from any surrounding tissue to remove it in one piece. Our technique minimises scarring and promotes a smooth healing process.

The area will then be stitched and dressed and you will be required to return to the clinic to have the stitches removed 1-2 weeks later, unless dissolvable stitches have been used.

What to expect after treatment:

After the procedure, mild swelling or bruising may appear arround the treated area. This usually settles within a few days.

When to expect results:

You can return to most daily activities immediately, although we do recommend avoiding any strenuous movement for at least 48 hours. This includes exercise and heavy lifting.

As the skin heals, any incision line becomes less noticeable, often fading significantly over the next few months.

For the best results and a smooth healing process, we always encourage following our simple aftercare advice.

Abstain from any strenuous exercise and pressure on the wound so as to not disrupt the stitches.
