Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma refers to soft, yellowish cholestrol deposits that appear just beneath the surafce of the skin. They are most common around the eyes. These flat, or slightly raised, plaques often develop symmetrically on the upper or lower eyelids, and tend to grow gradually over time.
Although xanthelasma is harmless and doesn’t cause any physical discomfort, its appearance can be distressing. Many people choose to remove them due to their visible location, especially when patches become larger.
While xanthelasma may indicate high cholestrol levels, it often occurs in people with normal lipid profiles. Regardless of the cause, cosmetic removal is achievable and safe with the right technique.
How do we remove Xanthelasma at Persona?
We remove these fatty deposits using diathermy. This method targets the lesions precisely without damaging surrounding skin. This is ideal for targeting delicate areas like the eyelids.
How does the treatment work?
During your procedure, a fine probe delivers short bursts of heat to the affected area. The heat gradually breaks down the fatty deposits, which the body reabsorbs or sheds as the skin heals. It is a practical alterative to surgical excision or laser treatments, especially when dealing with flat or shallow plaques.
What to expect after treatment:
Immediately after treatment, the area might appear red, slightly swollen, or have mild scabbing. These side effects usually settle within 5-10 days as your skin begins to heal. During this period, it’s important to follow all aftercare instructions to support recovery and prevent irritation.
When to expect results:
Most clients notice visible improvements after a single session. However, deeper or more extensive xanthelasma may require a second treatment to achieve the best result.
To prevent recurrence, we recommend discussing cholestrol and lifestyle choices with your GP, particularly if you’ve had xanthelasma more than once.
