SKin tag removal

Skin tags (acrochordons) are small, noncancerous growths that tend to be the same colour as your skin. They often look like a cluster of skin tissue extending out from a tiny stem. They’re sometimes darker and may resemble a raised mole. Most skin tags are between 1-5 mm, but some can grow as large as a few centimetres. Skin tags do not affect your health. But they can be unsightly. If they are in areas like your face and neck, they can make you self-conscious. A skin tag removal procedure can help.

Skin tags are small, flesh coloured growths that often hang off the skin by a thin stalk. Medically known as acrochordons, they commonly appear in areas where skin rubs together, such as the neck, eyelids and underarms. While completely harmless, skin tags can become irritated or catch on jewlellery or clothing.

Many clients choose to remove them for cosmetic reasons or to eliminate discomfort. Removal is fast, safe and straightforward when done with the right technique.

How do we remove Skin Tags at Persona?

We offer two methods for skin tag removal: skin shave and diathermy. Both techniques provide precise results with minimal downtime.

  • Skin shave involves gently shaving the skin tag at its base using a sterile blade. This method works well for most visible skin tags and delivers immediate results.
  • Diathermy uses a fine probe to apply brief pulses of heat to the skin tag. The heat seals blood vessels and removes the tag cleanly, with very little damage to surrounding skin.

Our medical team will assess which method of removal is most suitable due to the size, location, and number of skin tags.

How does the treatment work?

If we use skin shave removal, we carefully trim the skin tag flush with the surface of your skin. This method causes minimal bleeding and requires no stitches.

If we use diathermy, we apply the thermal device directly to the skin tag to cauterise and remove it in a few seconds.

With both of these methods, you can usually return to your usual activities immediately after the procedure.

What to expect after treatment:

Healing begins right away. You may notice a small scab or slight redness at the treatment site. This typically resolves within 5-10 days.

When to expect results:

As the skin heals, the area smooths out naturally. While you don’t need to schedule any downtime, we recommend keeping the area clean, avoiding perfumes near the site and protecting the skin from sun exposure.
