Keloid Removal

What is a Keloid?
A keloid is an overgrowth of scar tissue that forms after skin injury, surgery, or sometimes even minor irritation. Unlike normal scars, keloids extend beyond the original wound and often appear raised and firm.
Keloid removal helps reduce the size, improve appearance and relieve symptoms of discomfort or itching.
What happens during the Keloid Removal procedure?
Treatment depends on the size, location and any previous attempts to manage the keloid.
For surgical removal, the surgeon numbs the area, using local anesthetic, excises the keloid, and closes the skin with sutures.
Steroid injections may be needed post removal to aid the healing process and prevent recurrence.
Keloid Removal Recovery and Results
Recovery is usually straightforward. Most patients return to normal activities the day after surgery. Mild swelling, tenderness or redness may appear but usually settles within a few days.
Complications
Though 95% of cases are complication free, there is a small risk of:
- Minor infection or bleeding
- Scarring
- Deformity
- Recurrence of the keloid
These risks will be discussed with you during the consultation.
Aftercare
Sutures are typically removed after 7-10 days.
By following your surgeon’s provided aftercare guidance closely, you can expect a faster recovery and long lasting, natural looking results.
