What is Eyelid Surgery?

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid reduction surgery, removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids to restore a refreshed, youthful look. It addresses issues like droopy eyelids, puffiness, and tired-looking eyes.

Aging causes skin to lose collagen and elasticity, leading to sagging, wrinkles, and puffiness around the eyes. This results in heavy folds on upper lids that can block vision, and bags on lower lids from fat shifting forward, creating a tired appearance. Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin to improve vision, while lower eyelid surgery reduces puffiness and smooths lines. Many choose this surgery to regain a refreshed look and boost confidence

How does the treatment work?

Blepharoplasty surgery is typically performed under local anesthetic. The procedure can target the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

For the upper eyelids, a small incision is made along the natural crease. Excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle, are removed or repositioned.

In lower eyelid surgery, the incision is placed either just below the lash line or inside the lower lid to minimise scarring.

Once the adjustments have been made, the incisions are closed with sutures. The goal is to enhance the contour of the eyelid while maintaining a balanced appearance.

What to expect after treatment:

Recovery from eyelid surgery is typically quick. Most patients return to normal activities within 7 to 10 days.

Swelling and bruising are common side effects, but these can fade steadily with rest and proper care.

When to expect results:

Results begin to show within a couple of weeks and continue to improve as healing progresses. Patients usually notice more defined eyes and a smoother eyelid contour. If sagging skin was blocking vision, that issues often improves immediately after the surgery.

The results of a blepharoplasty are long lasting and have been known to significantly boost self confidence.
