Mole Removal in Bexleyheath

Safe, effective removal for cosmetic or diagnostic purposes.
Moles, also known as naevi, are common skin growths formed by clusters of pigment-producing cells. They can be flat or raised and range in colour from light brown to almost black. They may also be clear or skin coloured. Moles may appear anywhere on the body and can change in size, shape or texture over time.
While most moles are harmless, people often choose to remove them for cosmetic reasons or due to irritation caused by clothing or friction. In some cases, removal is advised for diagnostic or preventative reasons, especially if a mole has changed in appearance.

How We Remove Moles at Persona Medical Aesthetics
At our CQC-regulated clinic in Bexleyheath, we offer two clinically proven options for mole removal: skin shave excision and surgical excision.
Skin Shave
This technique is ideal for raised, non-suspicious moles. Using a sterile blade, our medical team gently shaves the mole so it sits flush with the surrounding skin. The result is smoother skin with minimal scarring.
Surgical Excision
For deeper moles or those that appear atypical, we perform a surgical excision. This method involves removing the entire mole, including a small margin of surrounding tissue. It is the preferred approach when histological testing may be required.
Your treatment method will be determined during your free consultation, based on the size, shape and location of your mole.
What to Expect During Mole Removal Treatment
Your skin is first cleaned and numbed with local anaesthetic. Depending on the method:
Skin Shave: The mole is removed at the surface level, and the area is smoothed to match the surrounding skin.
Surgical Excision: A small incision is made to remove the mole completely. Stitches are then used to close the area and aid healing. If non-dissolvable stitches are used, you’ll return to the clinic 7 to 10 days later for removal.

Healing, Results and Aftercare
Skin Shave: A small scab may form and fall off naturally within 7 to 10 days. Avoid picking at it to reduce the risk of scarring.
Surgical Excision: Healing usually takes 10 to 14 days. Redness and mild tenderness may persist for a few weeks but will fade as the skin heals.
Any stitches will either dissolve or be removed during your follow-up appointment. Over time, scarring should fade to closely match your natural skin tone.
If your mole is sent for testing, we will contact you with the results, typically within 1 to 2 weeks.
To support healing, we recommend avoiding sun exposure on the treated area and following our full aftercare instructions.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will I need stitches?
If you have had a surgical excision then yes. Your wound will be stitched and dressed. You must keep this clean and dry until the stitches are removed (about 1 week later). Dissolvable stitches can take anywhere between 2 – 8 weeks to fully dissolve and heal
-
What to expect after treatment?
You can bath or shower after 48 hours but do not put the wound directly under the flow of water and replace the dressing if required. If the dressings fall off, clean the wound and dab dry, do not rub, and reapply a clean dressing. Once the stitches have been removed apply Vaseline to the wound for the next 4 weeks. If at any point the wound becomes red, inflamed or is weeping, please contact the clinic or your GP if it has not been possible to reach us.
-
What to avoid after treatment?
Abstain from any strenuous exercise and pressure on the wound so as to not disrupt the stitches.
Avoid any excessive heat ie saunas until the stitches have been removed and you have been advised further. Do not pick any scabs or dry skin.
