What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation. While sweating is a natural response to heat or stress, people with hyperhidrosis sweat unpredictably and often excessively. This can happen even when they’re cool or relaxed.

There are two main types:

  • Primary hyperhidrosis: This typically affects specific areas like the hands, feet, underarms, or face. It usually begins during adolescence and has no clear medical cause.
  • Secondary hyperhidrosis: This form results from an underlying condition, such as diabetes, thyroid problems, or infections. It can also occur as a side effect of certain medications.

How does the treatment work?

One of the most effective ways to treat overactive sweat glands is with Botox (botulinum toxin) injections. While Botox is often associated with wrinkle reduction, it also plays a powerful role in managing hyperhidrosis.

Botox blocks the chemical

signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat production. When injected into areas like the underarms, palms, or soles, it essentially “turns off” sweating in those spots. The sweat doesn’t get trapped or redirected—it just stops in the treated area.

The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and doesn’t require downtime. Most sessions only take 20 to 30 minutes.

What to expect after treatment:

After your Hyperhidrosis  treatment you may experience temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, and possible bruising at the injection sites. These will usually subside within a few days. You may also experience mild tenderness or pain which can be managed with over the counter pain relief. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact the clinic.

When to expect results:

Most people start to notice a reduction in sweating within 4 to 7 days after their Botox treatment. The full effect typically kicks in by the two-week mark.

Botox isn’t a permanent fix, but the results last a long time—usually 4 to 6 months, and sometimes longer. Many patients schedule treatments twice a year to stay dry and confident year-round.

As always, individual results may vary slightly. However, with consistent care and a personalised treatment plan, Botox offers a reliable solution for people struggling with chronic sweating.
