Venous Lake Removal Bexleyheath

Venous Lake

Venous lakes are a type of venous malformation that forms a blue spot, most typically on the lower lip. It is a made up of dialated abnormal veins, usually appearing as soft, compressible, dark blue spot in the lower lip. No one knows what causes venous lakes to form but sun and UV damage are thought to play a role. They are most often seen in people older than 50 and are more common in men than in women.

Venous lakes are soft, dark blue or purple spots that commonly appear on sun-exposed areas, particularly the lips, ears and face. These lesions form when small veins dilate and pool with blood close to the skin’s surface.

Although they are harmless and painless, their appearance can often cause concern, especially when they resemble bruises or darker moles.

Because venous lakes tend to grow slowly over time and remain visible, many people choose to have them removed for peace of mind.

How do we remove Venous Lakes at Persona?

We treat venous lakes using diathermy. This is a safe and effective method that uses heat to close the affected blood vessels. This technique allows us to target the lesion with precision while protecting the surrounding tissue.

How does the treatment work?

During the treatment, we apply a fine probe directly to the venous lake. A brief pulse of thermal energy seals the dialated blood vessels, cutting off blood flow and prompting the body to break down and absorb the lesion naturally.

Diathermy provides a minimally invasive solution. It is especially well suited to lesions on delicate facial areas.

What to expect after treatment:

After treatment, the area may appear slightly red, swollen, or darker than usual for the first 2-5 days. In some cases, a small scab may form. These side effects should resolve quickly, with most clients seeing a visible improvement with 7-14 days as the skin clears.

When to expect results:

To promote proper healing, we recommend keeping the area clean and dry for at least 24 hours Avoid touching, rubbing or applying makeup until the skin has fully recovered.

If your venous lake was on the lip or the face, applying SPF regularly will help prevent recurrence and protect the skin while it heals.

In most cases, one session is enough. However, if the lesion is large or stubborn, we may recommend a second session for optimal results.
